Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today…..

After standing around, looking at our watches, tutting and generally intimidating the shorts clad tourists into buggering off we hastily prepared our ceremony.  Machinegun had the video camera. The Rev was photographer and minister, Lashes was Rotweiler.

What?

Rotweiler?

Oh yes. She heard some other tourists approaching so she bounded up the track and saw them off. Good call. It was all a bit stressy as it was. Baby Bunting was screaming, the music was blaring away as no one had been put in charge of turning it off at the right moment and I was about to lose the plot completely. More tears followed. Lashes came to the rescue again by stuffing a packet of biscuits into the baby’s hand – worked like a charm.

After our initial false start we began again.  Big N walked me down the ‘aisle’

The Rev delivered the ceremony with dignity and just the right amount of humour:

The Rev

Lashes was word perfect with her reading, one that was read when we got married all those years ago:

Lashes

Love is always patient and kind,

It is never Jealous or conceited;

it is never rude or selfish;

it does not take offence,

it is not resentful.

Love takes no pleasure in other people’s sins but always delights in the truth;

it is always ready to excuse, to trust, to hope and to endure whatever comes.

True love never comes to an end.

Corinthians 13:4-8

Machinegun

Machinegun kept everyone calm.

gembolina

gembolina empathised.

baby Bunting

Baby Bunting screamed and ate biscuits.

clingons

The clingons read their poem beautifully:

A Lovely Love Story by Edward Monkton

The fierce Dinosaur was trapped inside his cage of ice.

Although it was cold he was happy in there.

It was, after all, his cage.

Then along came the Lovely Other Dinosaur.

The Lovely Other Dinosaur melted the Dinosaur’s cage with kind words and loving thoughts.

I like this Dinosaur thought the Lovely Other Dinosaur.

Although he is fierce he is also tender and he is funny.

He is also quite clever though I will not tell him this for now.

I like this Lovely Other Dinosaur, thought the Dinosaur.

She is beautiful and she is different and she smells so nice.

But he can be so distant and so peculiar at times, thought the Lovely Other Dinosaur.

He is also overly fond of things.

Are all Dinosaurs so overly fond of things?

But her mind skips from here to there so quickly thought the Dinosaur.

She is also uncommonly keen on shopping.

Are all Lovely Other Dinosaurs so uncommonly keen on shopping?

I will forgive his peculiarity and his concern for things, thought the Lovely Other Dinosaur.

For they are part of what makes him a richly charactered individual.

I will forgive her skipping mind and her fondness for shopping,thought the Dinosaur.

Now the Dinosaur and the Lovely Other Dinosaur are old.

Look at them.

Let us all be Dinosaurs and Lovely Other Dinosaurs together.

For the sun is warm.

And the world is a beautiful place.

I realised that it didn’t matter about the cakes, flowers, photographers and all the rest of it. That’s all just window dressing. Everything that is most important to me in this world was right there at that moment.

There were floods of tears. This time, however, they were for different reasons.  It was a beautiful and moving ceremony and I thank from the bottom of my heart all of the people who made it happen but mostly I thank my Boofuls for choosing me to be his soul mate.

Time to crack open that champagne!  The Rev, having already been photographer and minister then turned his hand to barman.
